Researchers Advance Measurement of Micro and Nanoparticles

Publicaciones

A study compares different methods for measuring the size of nanoparticles by mass spectrometry, identifying the most accurate techniques and their optimal applications. The researchers developed new tools to improve the measurements, including a computer program that facilitates the analysis. This advance is especially relevant given the increasing use of nanoparticles in medicine, technology and consumer products.

A new study published improves techniques for measuring the size of micro- and nanoparticles, essential tools in fields such as medicine, technology and the environment.
The research team compared different methods for measuring particles using mass spectrometry (SP-ICP-MS). This work will help scientists and technicians to choose the most suitable method according to their specific needs.
The researchers tested the techniques with gold and silica particles of different sizes, from 20 nanometers to 1 micrometer. The results show that the transport efficiency-independent methods provide the most accurate measurements.
As part of the study, the team developed software to improve the time-based measurements, making them easier to use in laboratories.
This advance contributes to improved accuracy in the analysis of nanoparticles, elements that are increasingly present in consumer products and industrial applications.
